In 2002, the Rio received a mild redesign (for the 2003 model year in the US) including upgrades in engine, suspension, brakes, and new exterior and interior styling. Mechanically the Sports-Pac was identical to regular models, with the exception of lowered suspension. There was a version called the Sports-Pac, which featured a bonnet scoop, a rear wing, golden wheels, and blue paint, all inspired by the Subaru Impreza WRX STi. ABS was available as an option for entry-line cars but fitted by default for top of the range models (i.e., Rio LX, in the UK, and Rio LS, in Greece). Safety features included seat belts and an airbag for the driver. The first generation hatchback was marketed as the Rio RX-V in South Korea. For the SOHC 1.5 95 PS (70 kW) was claimed. Claimed outputs for the domestic versions (JIS) were higher, at 84 PS (62 kW) for the little 1.3 and 108 PS (79 kW) for the DOHC 1.5. The domestic Korean market versions did not include the 1.6-liter version, as the South Korean taxation system heavily penalizes cars of more than 1,500 cc. In Europe, the various national markets received different selections of the three engines. Additional features were available for promotion in Greece, including leather seats and car alarm. The European version was marketed under several trim levels standard equipment for all trims included a driver airbag. The USA-version five-door featured power steering and a tachometer, optional on the sedan. An alternative of a 1.3-litre (1,343 cc) SOHC four-cylinder/eight-valve petrol, producing 75 hp (56 kW) was offered in some other countries, including the United Kingdom and most of continental Europe. All years offered a choice of a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed F4A-EL automatic. Then a larger version appeared, a 1.6-litre DOHC four-cylinder rated at 104 hp (78 kW) used for model years 2003 through 2005. The first generation Rio offered only one engine for each model year in the United States: a 96 hp (72 kW) 1.5-litre DOHC I4 gasoline engine from 2001 through 2002. In South Korea, this was the only generation to use the "Rio" name, as the "Pride" name was used from the second generation onwards. In Greece, both versions were sold as the "Rio". The sedan version was not sold in the United Kingdom, and the station wagon was known as the "Rio" there. The station wagon was marketed as the "Rio Cinco" in the United States, "Rio RX- V" in Canada, and "Rio Look" in Chile. While the Rio's styling and affordability were well-received, it was derided for its poor build quality and driving experience. When released, it was the least-expensive mass-produced car to be sold in the United States. The first generation Kia Rio (referred internally as the "DC") was offered in both four-door sedan and five-door station wagon body styles. A second generation was introduced in 2005 in Europe and in 2006 in North America, sharing its platform with the Hyundai Accent, a subcompact manufactured by its sister Hyundai Motor Company in South Korea.Īs of 2023, there are reports that the Kia Rio is to be discontinued in Europe and Australia. The Rio replaced the first generation Pride-a rebadged version of the Ford Festiva-and the Avella, a subcompact sold as a Ford in some markets. Body styles have included a three and five-door hatchback and four-door sedan, equipped with inline-four gasoline and diesel engines, and front-wheel drive. I'd still say it's well-worth it and further justifies keeping it running. The Kia Rio ( Korean: 기아 리오) is a subcompact car manufactured by Kia since November 1999 and now in its fourth generation. There's still much to be done, I figure some body work might pay off and hopefully she'll shine. Lots of little touches hear and there, in total probably $800-$1000 worth of parts and mostly DIY labor. Other than some heavy dents and scratches and faded plastic and worn interior it looks like she'll make it with some tlc. Once I cleaned it up decently it started coming back together, but obviously age isn't something easy to undo. Definitely had some problems with it when I took it over. Last year I started taking more of an interest in fixing it up, it gave me a chance to figure things out and it helped me keep my mind off family issues at the time. It was shinny and new and smelled so great! Well it's been a long time now, and it wasn't always well taken care of. I could've written about it back then and how awesome it was in its hey-day. We had all kinds of used cars, just due to the fact that we couldn't afford something new. This car was purchased new back in 2006 and it was a big deal for the family since it was the first new car we'd owned.

They all have personalities, built-in traits,” LaDonna Davis told Morales. His wife lost a thumb.Īnd yet, like Herold, the Davises maintained that chimpanzees should be allowed to live with humans. James Davis wears a prosthetic nose and his face is scarred from the attack and the scores of surgeries he has undergone. Moe was not involved in the attack.Īfter Rossen’s report, the Davises and their attorney, Gloria Allred, spoke from California with TODAY’s Natalie Morales. A ranger at the refuge shot and killed both chimps. James Davis was savagely mauled, losing an eye and several fingers as well as sustaining other injuries. While they were feeding Moe birthday cake through a hole in his fenced enclosure, two adolescent chimpanzees somehow escaped from their own enclosure at the refuge and attacked the Davises. James and LaDonna Davis of West Covina, Calif., were visiting Moe, a 39-year-old chimp they had raised as a human, at a wildlife refuge the chimpanzee had been sent to by a court after he showed aggressive behavior in 1999. Such attacks are rare, but they have happened before. How many people go crazy and kill other people? This is one incident that I don't know what happened.” “We can give them a blood transfusion, and they can give us one. They're the closest thing to humans - to us,” Herold said. 'Interdisciplinary collaborations like this have huge potential to make an impact, by finding novel solutions for old problems, and asking biological questions which were previously not feasible on a large scale.“After what you've been through with this - your friend is in the hospital fighting for her life - do you still think chimps should be pets?” Rossen asked her. 'With an increasing biodiversity crisis and many of the world's ecosystems under threat, the ability to closely monitor different species and populations using automated systems will be crucial for conservation efforts, as well as animal behaviour research' adds Schofield. As a computer vision researcher, it is extremely satisfying to see these methods applied to solve real, challenging biodiversity problems.' 'We hope that this will help researchers across other parts of the world apply the same cutting-edge techniques to their unique animal data sets. 'All our software is available open-source for the research community,' says Nagrani. Although the current application focused on chimpanzees, the software provided could be applied to other species, and help drive the adoption of artificial intelligence systems to solve a range of problems in the wildlife sciences. The technology has potential for many uses, such as monitoring species for conservation. 'Additionally, our method differs from previous primate face recognition software in that it can be applied to raw video footage with limited manual intervention or pre-processing, saving hours of time and resources.' 'Access to this large video archive has allowed us to use cutting edge deep neural networks to train models at a scale that was previously not possible,' says Arsha Nagrani, co-author of the study and DPhil student at the Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford. The new software is the first to continuously track and recognise individuals in a wide range of poses, performing with high accuracy in difficult conditions such as low lighting, poor image quality and motion blur. The computer model was trained using over 10 million images from Kyoto University's Primate Research Institute (PRI) video archive of wild chimpanzees in Guinea, West Africa. 'By harnessing the power of machine learning to unlock large video archives, it makes it feasible to measure behaviour over the long term, for example observing how the social interactions of a group change over several generations.' 'For species like chimpanzees, which have complex social lives and live for many years, getting snapshots of their behaviour from short-term field research can only tell us so much,' says Dan Schofield, researcher and DPhil student at Oxford University's Primate Models Lab, School of Anthropology. The two jack/XLR inputs at the bottom can serve either as mic inputs with phantom power, as line inputs, or as high-impedance inputs for connecting electric guitars and the like. Two cardioid mics, in a sort of X-Y configuration, are located at the top, protected by a little cage-like structure, on top of which sits the supplied foam windshield: a welcome addition that you will definitely need outdoors. However, there's no meter to show you how much power remains, which is a pity. Two batteries will give you about four hours' recording time, so a cheap 'Dirty Dozen' will give you a full 24 hours' recording. A 128MB card is supplied, but you can now get 2GB cards fairly cheaply. It runs on just two AA batteries, though you have the option of 9V DC power from the supplied transformer, and records onto SD cards. Once the box arrived, I took a quick spin through the manual and fired up the recorder. The entire unit measures 70 x 152.7 x 35mm, and looks rather like a device you'd use to stun the Invaders From Mars. The Zoom H4 is a handheld solid-state recorder with built-in stereo mic, two combi XLR/quarter-inch jack inputs and USB output. So, recently, I've been looking for the sound recordist's equivalent of a compact camera that I can whip out when that little interesting noise comes along, and when Sound On Sound asked if I could review the Zoom H4, how could I say no? Overview I tend to use high-end equipment designed specifically for film and TV work, but you inevitably come to a point where you're asked to achieve the near-impossible on a regular basis with the easiest (which to 'the Producers' means cheapest) of tools. How does Zoom's H4 compare?Īs a location sound recordist, it's great to have top-notch kit for recording on-set, or gathering samples to use in post-production. Thanks for reading, I hope this review has been useful and insightful. We've seen affordable field recorders from Edirol and M-Audio. I’m always open for discussions, so please, have at it! Which device are you leaning more towards? Maybe you’re already using one of them and have some of your own expertise to share? I’d also like to hear your thoughts and questions. There are still some tracks in my catalog that have been recorded with it!Ĭan you guess which ones? Let us know in the comments! If you just need a portable field recorder that will serve you just as much out there as it will in the comfort of your own recording studio, then you’ve found it! I used the Zoom H4n Pro as my audio interface and effects processor for quite some time before upgrading. Maybe you’re not looking for something that’s ready for TV/Film standards. Maybe you’re not looking for something that costs an arm and a leg! It’s like comparing apples and an orchard of oranges! However, I hope that you understand the significant leap from the Zoom H4n Pro and the Sound Devices 552. Since I started using the Sound Devices 552, nothing really compares. It might be the overwhelming user-interface, who knows… Sure, I still get excited when I see one and especially when I hold one, but I wouldn’t personally record with one anymore. I used to rave about the Zoom H4n Pro but as I’ve grown, I’ve started to realize that this device may not have been as great as I remembered. Is it suitable for professional use though? If you’re just getting started, I think the Zoom H4n Pro is the perfect recording device and the fact that it’s portable makes it that much better. I just recommend using an appropriate DI box since the inputs aren’t high-impedance. That should be expected, but you can get lots of mileage out of the Zoom H4n Pro.Īnd remember… All of this is possible while using the device as your audio interface, so you can record in zero-latency by using the onboard effects processor. The interface is similar to the Axe FX by Fractal Audio, but nowhere close in regards to sound. It isn’t the case anymore, but I used to record my electric guitar tracks using the onboard amp modelling software and effects. I used to rely quite heavily on the Zoom H4n Pro back in the day for that. What about electric guitar and bass guitar though? If you have the proper USB cable, you can also record all of this straight into your DAW! There you go, you’ve got the 4 microphone setup I discussed in this article. If you wanted to record your drum kit, you could simply use the integrated microphones as overheads, use input 1 for your kick drum and input 2 for your snare drum. However, purchasing some microphones will give you more flexibility. You don’t even need to have another microphone! For example, the fact that we have an integrated pair of stereo microphones makes this device useful right out of the box. Outpatients with solid tumors, additional risk factors for deep venous thrombosis, and low bleeding risk should receive prophylactic doses of LMWH (grade 2B) Simplification of anticoagulation management: no need for frequent dosage adjustments, INR monitoring Recommended over warfarin (Coumadin) in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation who do not have severe renal impairment (grade 2B) In patients with atrial fibrillation and at least one other risk factor for stroke, newer agents (rivaroxaban and dabigatran ) that do not require frequent laboratory monitoring are as effective as warfarin for prevention of stroke or systemic embolism and have comparable risks of major bleeding.Ĭompared with usual clinic-based care, patient self-testing for international normalized ratios, with or without self-dosing of warfarin, is associated with significantly fewer deaths and thromboembolic complications without any increase in bleeding complications for a selected group of motivated patients who have completed appropriate training. Health care professionals skilled in the initiation and assessment of therapy and dosing adjustments can dramatically influence outcomes. Patients taking warfarin (Coumadin) should be treated using systematic processes of care to optimize effectiveness and minimize adverse effects. Rivaroxaban is indicated for the prevention of deep venous thrombosis in patients undergoing knee or hip replacement surgery, for treatment of deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, for reducing the risk of recurrent deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism after initial treatment, and for prevention of systemic embolism in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation. Dabigatran and apixaban are indicated for the prevention of systemic embolism and stroke in persons with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation. Food and Drug Administration since publication of the eighth edition in 2008. The ninth edition of the American College of Chest Physicians guidelines, published in 2012, includes a discussion of anticoagulants that have gained approval from the U.S. Increasingly, self-testing is an option for selected patients on warfarin therapy. Bridging with low-molecular-weight heparin or other agents is based on balancing the risk of thromboembolism with the risk of bleeding. Warfarin therapy should be stopped five days before major surgery and restarted 12 to 24 hours postoperatively. The international normalized ratio goal and duration of treatment with warfarin vary depending on indication and risk. The heparin product or fondaparinux should be continued for at least five days and until the patient's international normalized ratio is at least 2.0 for two consecutive days. When warfarin therapy is initiated for venous thromboembolism, it should be given the first day, along with a heparin product or fondaparinux. Warfarin, a vitamin K antagonist, is recommended for the treatment of venous thromboembolism and for the prevention of stroke in persons with atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, or valvular heart disease. The American College of Chest Physicians provides recommendations for the use of anticoagulant medications for several indications that are important in the primary care setting. I have rarely seen a shoe survive that long, especially at this price point. The lugs on the bottom of the shoe were still fully intact (although somewhat worn down), and there were no tears to the uppers. After 18 months of use, my first pair only had a few tears to the fabric inside the heel. Next, I have found the shoe to be very durable overall. I have rarely found a better-fitting shoe. There is plenty of room to accommodate my orthotics as well as a medium-weight wool hiking sock. I bought a 9, and it fits like a 9 should, with a solid midfoot lockdown and ample toe room. I am a standard size 9 medium, but often have to go up a size or a size-and-a-half to get a proper fit with many kinds of athletic shoes. I also very much appreciate the fit of these shoes. The support the Venture provides, in my opinion, is superior to that of some shoes that cost twice as much. This solid support is essential on the trail and has allowed me to use these on ten-plus-mile hikes as well as neighborhood jogs and sessions on the leg machine at the gym. It took me 18 months of rigorous use to wear down the material in my first pair. The midsole is made of a material that is firm yet also somewhat springy. My favorite thing about the ASICS Gel Venture 6 is the level of support they provide. The laces are rugged and will enable the wearer to secure the foot in the shoe solidly. The heel of the shoe includes a pull tab which allows for easy on and off. This holds the foot in place inside the shoe and prevents slippage. The toe is covered with a durable bumper for protection.Īlong the sides of the shoe, the brand’s logo (a striped pattern) is incorporated into the support system to create a kind of a “cage” around the midfoot. The upper of this shoe is made of a tough nylon material which is designed to withstand debris. The midsole heel-to-toe drop is approximately 10 millimeters, which is a traditional drop for many running shoes and seems standard for ASICS. The rest of the midsole is comprised of a dense, firm foam material. The Gel cushioning is located only in the heel of this style. The midsole of the ASICS Gel Venture 6 contains the Gel cushioning system often found in ASICS shoes. I find this support bar to be very helpful when climbing up and down rocky hills with loose rocks underfoot. The outsole also features a firm support bar across the midfoot which prevents the foot from twisting too much when walking on rocks and gravel. The outsole of the Venture 6Īs a trail running shoe, the ASICS Gel Venture 6 is built with a sturdy, lugged outsole. These lugs provide a solid grip on challenging terrain. Thus, the ASICS Gel Venture 6 combined with the inserts provides just the right level of support for me. I find that for me, a neutral shoe combined with the orthotic inserts provides sufficient comfort for running and walking. Due to chronic issues with plantar fasciitis pain over the years, I wear an over-the-counter orthotic device which was prescribed to me by my podiatrist. I have an average-width, medium arched foot. That said, over time and through trial-and-error, you will be able to identify what works for your feet and what doesn’t. There's a lot of science that goes into evaluating gait and selecting the appropriate type of shoe for the way you walk or run. They are designed for a neutral gait, where the foot does not rotate too far inwards (over-pronation) or outwards (over-supination) during the gait cycle. These shoes are advertised as being a general all-rounder with the capacity to take on rougher terrain. “Are you home?” I asked, still kind of panicking. My stomach dropped and I called my sister who thankfully picked up. I heard the tap turn on and the bath started to run. I was in utter shock with the way she was acting and seriously started to assume she got possessed or some shit. She got up and walked out of the room towards the bathroom. She awkwardly moved her body towards the end of the bed, then moved her head towards the door, face still hidden. She still didn’t answer, but she did start to move. As weird as my mom was acting, I was more focused on the whispering. The whispering stopped and I felt much safer. She didn’t move, so I quickly reached for the switch and turned on both lights. “Mom turn on the fucking light!” I screamed. “No fucking way, turn on the light!” I replied, voice slightly shaking.Īt this point, the whispering got slightly louder and I started to legitimately panic. “Can you check out the sound in the closet?” She asked. I turned to look at my mom but her face was now completely under the covers as if she was trying to avoid me. I know in horror movies the protagonist would open it slowly, but I’m not a fucking idiot and jumped up onto my mom’s bed. I assumed my sister had come home from her boyfriends and turned the light off.Īs we both waited in silence, I heard a faint whispering coming from her closet. “Hear what?” I replied as I took out my phone to see. I walked up to tap her on the shoulder when almost in unison the hall light turned off and my mom finally spoke. The room was freezing cold and I felt that something bad had happened and I wanted to make sure she was alright. The light from the hall gave me enough light to see my mom on her side facing away from me, blanket covering everything but her hair. My mom always sleeps with her sound machine which plays peaceful sounds of the ocean or the jungle to help her sleep, but it was on the floor unplugged. I opened the door and peeked into darkness and silence. I knocked on my mom’s door and called out again, no answer. This instantly confused me because my dog always sleeps with my mom. I noticed that our dog Delilah was sitting on my bed, staring at me. My room was right beside my mom’s room, her door was closed while mine was open. I called a few more times before I started to head up the stairs. I walked up to the main floor and called out to my mom upstairs, no answer. I tried to brush it off but the way my brain works is that I quickly started to think that my mom had fallen and hit her head, or someone had entered the house. I stayed silent for a few seconds waiting to see what it was, but nothing happened. It sounded like a scream, but I could be wrong. As my game finished, I heard a sound from upstairs where everyone sleeps. This is where I think something weird happened. She went to bed as it ended and I went downstairs into the basement to play some video games. Everything seemed normal, we went out to dinner and went home to watch The Walking Dead. I took the bus and my mom picked me up from the bus station. I finished my final midterm a few days ago and decided to come home for the weekend. I know my mom, I know how she reacts to certain situations, I know how she starts conversations, etc. She texts me a lot at university to see how I am doing, or just sends heart emojis (she just recently learned about them so she goes crazy). We don’t see him often, but neither of us care that much since we never created a strong relationship with him.īack to my story, me and my mom are close. In case you’re wondering, my dad cheated on my mom when we were kids and married someone else. We are very similar, I got my mom’s personality while my sister got my dad’s. We regularly see movies, go to dinner, or just watch tv together. Me and my mom have a special relationship, she’s my best friend. My sister goes to the same school as me, but works part-time at my mom’s work so she commutes. Since my school is only an hour drive away, I like to bus home every few weekends to see my family (and especially my dog). I recently graduated high school and have gone off to university. I live with my mother and sister in a nice neighbourhood, you know, the usual. I think there is something wrong with my mother. Still, I don’t really know how to say this. I’ve read a few stories here (that creeped the fuck out of me which doesn’t help) in order to know how to write these things, what to say. I remember a friend telling me about this subreddit and that people can sometimes help others who are in need of it. I don’t feel safe here, which is probably stupid because I’m probably overreacting over nothing. I feel stupid writing this, but I don’t know where else to go. The only thing you need to know is create the file in the editor and start creating the CSS style sheet. This means that by simply downloading this code editor you can start working. The first thing you should know is that all the necessary packages to work with CSS and HTML5 are already integrated as part of Sublime Text. Now we are going to see how to generate CSS in Sublime Text and how this editor is used for web development. Just like with HTML, other markup languages, or other types of code used for web page and application development, CSS in Sublime Text is also possible.Īs we’ve mentioned above, this code editor has a large, very active community that offers a multitude of plugins and tutorials to learn how to work with it. The style sheets created for CSS are saved as independent files and inserted into the HTML structure so that they can be used as a reference to provide the website with a graphic and visual style. While HTML5 helps programers create a structure and layout for a web page, CSS is linked to this programming language and is in charge of providing a specific graphic style and a visible interface for the web page.ĬSS saves programmers a lot of work by keeping all the information about the visual style in a single editable file, making it easier to make any changes CSS is not a programming language itself, but rather a graphic design language for web development that is complemented by the markup language that is HTML5. This means that CSS is used to provide a certain visual style to a website. As you probably already know, CSS is the style sheet that is needed to create any web page. Sublime Text is a paid editor, but it offers a free trial version for a limited time.įront end development Download syllabus What is CSS and what is it for?īefore delving deeper into how to make CSS in Sublime Text, it is also advisable to review what CSS is and what its main characteristics are. Compatible with different grammar systems and languages.Cross-platform code editor that supports Windows, macOS and Linux.Function of command autocompletion, as well as autocompletion of parts of the code to avoid certain errors.Compatible with a multitude of programming and markup languages.Great customization capacity thanks to the plugins developed by its community.Simultaneous editing : In Sublime Text, you are able to select several areas of the code and make the same change simultaneously.Quick navigation to specific files, symbols, or lines of code you are working with. These are some of the main features that can be found in Sublime Text: It is a code editor that has become established so that more and more professionals use it as part of their daily work. The first version of Sublime Text was released in 2013 and the latest one, version 4.0, arrived in May 2021. Furthermore, it is a tool that can be greatly improved with packages and extensions created by the community and based on free software. In this case, it is an example of a commercial editor that supports many types of programming and markup languages natively. Sublime Text is, as we’ve mentioned above, a code editor. Let’s see in detail what Sublime Text is, its features and how to make CSS in Sublime Text. It’s thus perfect for those who are looking for something simple, as well as for those who want a few more plugins to make programming easier. While some use integrated development environments, others prefer simpler techniques, such as Sublime Text, an editor that is used to write different types of code and, additionally, also holds the possibility to generate CSS in Sublime Text.īefore starting, we must highlight the main feature of this code editor: it is highly modular. Every web developer has their own favorite code editor. It is primarily made up of unsaturated fats and is a very good source of antioxidants. □ HEALTHIEST NUT: Cashew has been considered one of the healthiest foods around. However, almond flour may make a better choice for sweet and delicate recipes, while almond meal works best in savory dishes. You can use almond meal and flour interchangeably. If you prefer a store-bought almond meal or flour, be sure to check the ingredient list and opt for one with almonds listed as the single ingredient. Then, drain and dry them, and remove the skin by pinching them. To blanch the almonds, add them to boiling water and soak them for a minute. If making almond flour, all you need to do is blanch the almonds before processing them. Store in an airtight container at room temperature or in the fridge.Clean the sides of the food processor or blender with a spatula to ensure all the nuts get processed. If you blend your almonds continuously, you’ll end up with almond butter. Pulse in 1-second intervals until you reach your desired grain size.Add the almonds to a food processor or powerful blender. How to make homemade almond meal and flourĪll you need to make almond meal is 1 cup (157 grams) of raw, unsalted almonds. Still, almond meal is typically preferred as a bread crumb substitute or coating element, while almond flour is preferred for baking. You can use almond meal and almond flour interchangeably in most recipes. Nevertheless, you can make your own almond meal and flour at home, which would enable you to control the grain size. In contrast, almond flour works best for sweet ones. Similarly, due to their different textures, almond flour works best when you’re working with delicate recipes or aiming for a fluffier result, such as for macaroons or a loaf of bread, as almond meal’s coarse grains may weigh your ingredients down.Īlso, due to the potentially bitter flavor of almond meal, it’s often used for savory dishes. In contrast, almond flour is typically preferred for baked goods.įor instance, almond flour’s rather pale tone resembles wheat flour more closely, so it’s preferred when looking for a smooth and uniform finish. However, almond meal is usually used as a bread crumb substitute or coating element due to its physical characteristics. You can use almond meal and flour interchangeably in most recipes. However, because almond meal contains almond skin, it has a higher fiber, mineral, and antioxidant content. SummaryĪlmond meal and flour have virtually the same nutritional profile. Research also suggests that the plant compounds in almond skin may have some antibacterial and antiviral activities and even help protect the oxidation of LDL (bad) cholesterol, thus helping lower your heart disease risk ( 3, 5, 6, 7). The skin also provides almond meal with a higher antioxidant content - namely flavonoids, phenolic acids, and tannins ( 3).Īntioxidants are molecules that help fight the damaging effects of free radicals in your body, which may lead to premature aging and the onset of some chronic and degenerative diseases ( 4). However, almond meal has a slightly higher fiber and mineral content due to the presence of almond skin. Their main difference is that almond flour is made from blanched almonds, which leads to variations in color, texture, and flavor.Īs you can see, they provide almost the same calorie and macronutrient content. SummaryĪlmond meal and flour are both made from ground almonds. It’s ground to the point that it has an almost powdery consistency. In this case, almonds are soaked in boiling water to remove the skin before being ground, which produces a pale, almost white product.Īlmond flour has a mild flavor and smaller or finer grains. Unlike almond meal, almond flour is made from skinless, blanched almonds. It also tends to have a larger grain size.Īdditionally, the presence of the skin may produce a slightly bitter taste. Given that the skin is still present in the final product, almond meal has a coarse consistency with brown specks or spots. Almond mealĪlmond meal is made by grinding whole, unpeeled almonds. Yet, they’re processed differently, resulting in differing colors, textures, and flavors. Almond meal and flour are both made from ground almonds.
